From the Director
What a year it has been! Stepping into the role of Executive Director for this amazing organization has been a privilege and blessing. When I reflect on the events of the past year, it is readily apparent that, “Hope lives here.”
Here at the Foundation, we often say that hope lives in research. After meeting with breast cancer survivors, connecting with supporters and sponsors, and learning from researchers at the Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research, I can see hope all around us.
Earlier this month, I was notified of an exciting discovery made by Dr. Bryan Schneider and researchers in his lab. They identified the mechanism that results in heart damage for some patients treated with a common class of breast cancer chemotherapies. This discovery may very well spare women of a life-threatening side effect from treatment. We are so excited to share more with you soon and celebrate the impact that this discovery will have in women across the globe!
A new year brings endless possibilities and a fresh start. Every day we get one step closer to a cure, and we are anxious to make more strides that bring us closer to that goal. We are excited for what the future will bring, but I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge YOU and your contributions over the past year! Seeing so many people support this cause affirms the notion that breast cancer affects so many of us. Know that every day our team is working tirelessly to raise more funds for life-changing research that will impact your loved ones.
Thank you for your generosity, passion, excitement, and support as we move forward in our mission. There truly is hope for a future free from breast cancer, a future where women thrive, not just survive.
With gratitude,
Stephanie Scheele
