22nd Annual Classic Raises Over $800,000
Fort Wayne, Ind. (June 1, 2015) — Today, the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer announces the 2015 Classic Golf & Tennis Tournament total of $834,658.
The three-day event, held in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is the largest women’s amateur golf and tennis charity event in the nation. Each year, 600 participants and 300 volunteers unite to raise funds with the goal of ultimately eradicating breast cancer.
“The advancements in breast cancer treatment due to research throughout the 22-year history of the Vera Bradley Classic are astonishing,” says Lynda Houk, Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Executive Director. “The fact that we have a golfer playing the 18-hole course today, who had a chemotherapy treatment on Tuesday, is proof that a cure is on the horizon.”
Funds raised support breast cancer research at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, a nationally ranked cancer center. To-date, the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer has raised more than $23 million.
