Tammy Bunsold: An inspiring Foundation volunteer
Fort Wayne, Indiana (April 30, 2008) — A great group of dedicated volunteers is one of the secret forces behind the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. Our volunteers give their time and energy to the Foundation every year, including assisting at the Foundation Table at the Vera Bradley Outlet Sale, helping with Turn the Town Pink and organizing and providing support for The Vera Bradley Classic Women's Gold and Tennis Tournament. We sat down with Tammy Bunsold, 43, a breast cancer survivor, who has been volunteering for the Foundation for the last five years.
Vera Bradley:How did you first get involved volunteering for the Foundation?
Tammy Bunsold: It’s a funny story. I actually became aware of Vera Bradley eight years ago when I first started working as a police officer at the Outlet Sale. That was my first Outlet Sale experience and my first Vera Bradley experience as well. Then about five years ago, my boyfriend Matt began volunteering as a scorekeeper for The Classic, and so my mom, dad and I also became involved volunteering as parking attendants and at the check-in table. I had always been one to volunteer, and because I had become close friends with women I had met while working at the Outlet Sale and had become a fan of the company, I decided to volunteer for the Foundation.
VB: What do you enjoy the most about volunteering for the Foundation?
TB: I love seeing all of the people from Vera Bradley—especially the other Foundation volunteers—at all of the events.
VB: So, tell us, what is your favorite Vera Bradley product?
TB: I always make it a point to spend money on Foundation items. That way I know the money is going towards a good cause. My favorite purchase is the Large Duffel Bag. My mom sewed a beautiful pink ribbon on it and turned it into a one-of-a-kind for me. I’ve traveled with it a lot and it holds many great memories.
VB: As a breast cancer survivor, what advice do you have for other women?
TB: There is definitely no doubt in my mind that early diagnosis is a lifesaver. The sooner it’s caught, the better the chance that it can be treated.
VB: What’s the next event you’ll be volunteering at?
TB: I’ll definitely see you at The 2008 Classic!
