Gardeners Dig in to Elkhart County Quilt Designs

Elkhart, Indiana — Hands and knees went in the dirt Tuesday to create an annual Elkhart County tourist destination. The 2010 Quilt Gardens Tour opens Monday morning. This week, volunteers and staff members at tour stops in Middlebury, Elkhart, Goshen, Wakarusa and Nappanee are ankle-deep in compost and potting soil, bringing the giant quilts to life.

Heidi Floyd of the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer and sales consultant Patti Pine of Vera Bradley Designs drove from Fort Wayne to join four volunteers and two park staff members to bring Wellfield Botanic Gardens' first quilt garden into being.
