Plus, your cancer-prevention grocery list
Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 15, 2009) — While genetics are beyond your control, an essential part of cancer prevention is right around the corner at your neighborhood grocery store.
“Good nutrition may help reduce the incidence of breast cancer and the risk of breast cancer progression or recurrence,” says Natalie Ledesma, R.D., lead dietitian for the Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California in San Francisco. Ledesma recommends choosing foods that are plant-based, such as beans and vegetables, or low in fat, such as tuna and lean meats, while also limiting refined foods and sweets. The next time you shop, stock up your cart with the items on this grocery list and be on your way to taking an active role in your health!
